Hints come up randomly on the Main Menu page for the software:
1. Don’t bet on every race. Where you can’t find a clear result than luck is likely to determine the winner of the race. Be patient.
2. Look for previous start winners. These horses normally have had to run their best time to win so they have got improvement in them. Include them if they are there about.
3. Don’t unselect too many previous runs. You do want the average run for a horse. So if you unselect most of the runs it will give you a bias average.
4. Look out for change in class or change in prizemoney. As a general rule horses dropping in class will run slower and horses going up in class do run quicker. Easy way to check class is by looking at the prizemoney.
5. Look at each chart even if its only for a short time. Each chart can tell you something different:
- First Qtrs vs Last Qtrs chart provides a good picture of how horse performs at different race paces and what the pace of todays race might be.
- Ratings chart is the most commonly used chart to compare the horses performance over time.
- Mile chart show what horse can run good overall time.
- First chart can help predict leaders and understand the pace of todays race.
6. To verify what you thing the result will be from looking at the charts, go to the Virtual Race and run some senarios to see if you can replicate your thoughts.
7. Remember a large percent of winners come from on pace runners. If you think a back marker will win make sure it can catch the leaders from its position.
8. If the “PosRt” in the Runners Data is a large negative or positive number, check the horses position and make sure it is realistic. A large number in this column means the horse is expected to run in a different position than normal for the current race.
9. If your Virtual Race doesn’t match up with your chart analysis you may need to unselect a poor run from the horse that isn’t working out. It may be one run is throwing the horses average.
10. Use the notes section for each race. Write down you thoughts and tips. Do the same for each horse. Change the comments as you like and it will help you understand why you selected or otherwise for the horse.
11. Practice makes perfect. It will take a bit of time to understand how this program works. The more you use it the more you will learn. This comes from witnessing what you thing was going to happen to what actually does happen in a race. Be patient and wait for the right races to bet on.
12. Horses down in grade typically sit further forward in the race. This should be remembered when predicting positions.
13. Use the charts to get your ratings right. Look at why performances might vary for horses when the ratings aren’t a straight line.
14. Be vary wary of Interstate/ New Zealand runners and runners with no data (First Starters). They have a bad habit of winning.
15. Know your tracks. Small radius tracks and small straight makes it very difficult for backmarkers. Check the track before you bet. Is there a sprint lane if you are backing a horse inside on the second row?
16. Look at chart trends. Is a horse improving its ratings or had too many runs and on a downward trend.
17. Has the horse run at todays likely pace? If they haven’t it is an unknown you need to consider.
